Students can always come in after school to get help from their teacher if they are having trouble. However, teachers are very busy after school (grading assignments, entering the grades in the gradebook, communicating with parents, creating content for the class, etc.) so if a student comes in for help, they will not always have the teachers full attention (can't watch them do every step on every problem) like if they were going to a tutor.
After school help usually goes something like this... Students come in, take out their work and ask questions to clear up the issues that are having. Then they go work on their own until they have more questions and get more help as necessary. Students must have a little self motivation for this to work well.

Will be able to do more than just help with homework if necessary. These are teachers that can diagnose where there are deficiencies and attempt to correct them.
